The State Archives - Closings, Repairs, and New Branches

Changes have been made to the regional network of the State Archives. Some branches have been closed, a few have been closed temporarily for repairs, and new branches and locations have been created.

The greatest changes took place in Świętokrzyskie province. Three branches have been closed, those in Jędrzejów, Pińczów, and Starachowice. All their holdings have been transferred to a new department in Kielce:

Archiwum Państwowe w Kielcach
ul. J.Kusocińskiego 57
25-045 Kielce
POLAND

The branch in Nowy Targ has been closed, and its archival materials have been transferred to the regional branch in Spytkowice near Zatory. Reading room IV of the Krak6w branch, at ul. E. Orzeszkowej 7, is closed until further notice.

The branch in Skołyszyn has also been closed, effective as of the start of this year. The recent flood caused many losses in the storerooms; fortunately, the metrical registers survived. The holdings of this branch are currently located at the Archive facility in Sanok:

AP, Oddzial w Sanoku
ul. Sadowa 32
38-500 Sanok
POLAND
e-mail <apsanok@neostrada.pl>

The process of taking inventory may continue until early 2013.

The Archive in Bielsko-Biała is under repair. In the near future, a new building covering 1,770 square meters will absorb the other Katowice branches in Oświecim and Żywiec. It is expected to open in late 2013.

The holdings of the Szczecin branch in Ploty have been transferred to Międzyzdroje:

AP, Oddział w Międzyzdroju
Osiedle Biała G6ra 5
72-500 Międzyzdroje
POLAND
e-mail <bialagora@szczecin.ap.gov.pl >

The branch in Gorz6w may have limited access to archival materials until construction is completed of the new office at ul. Mościckiego 7, which will be in 2013.

New archives are also being built in Radom and Zielona G6ra. Plans are for them to open in 2013. Repairs to the Archdiocesan Archive in Gniezno have been going on for two years. For now, one can send request to this

email address: < metryki@archidiecezja.pl>.

For dessert, let us end with a serving of good news for researchers. Several regional archives have enacted a new clause in their regulations: you can make digital copies with your own equipment (without flash) for free. All you have to do is fill out a form. This new regulation is in effect in all Warsaw and Łódź branches, among others.
