Ksiegi meldunkowe [Registration Books] -
from Selected Localities in the Ciechanow, Nieszawa, Plock, Torun, and Wloclawek Area

As you may know, Poles who lived in the Congress Kingdom of Poland (the Russian partition) had to register as citizens of the districts in which they resided. If they were born there, the process was automatic. If they moved there, or were forced to relocate there, they had to report to the local authorities, show their papers, and be entered in the rolls of local inhabitants. This created a whole category of records covering the
registration process. A general term for this process was meldunek, and records of this sort are often called ksiegi meldunkowe [registration books].

The following list indicates existing registration records for a number of towns and villages in the gubernia of Plock, in the northwestern part of the Congress Kingdom. This area is now in central to northcentral Poland.
